Technology sometimes gets a bad reputation for making us feel overwhelmed, overloaded, and just plain exhausted. Researchers have found that staring at a computer screen within an hour of going to bed can lead to a night of tossing and turning. But we often ignore sensible advice from experts. I am no exception. I am often caught up with Facebook or Twitter right before I turn in for the night. Recently though, I’ve learned to stop blaming technology for something that’s not its fault and start appreciating the good things it has to offer.
I am especially appreciative of technology today, when Hurricane Sandy (also being referred to as Frankenstorm) is affecting many on the East Coast. While most offices were closed yesterday and today, technology has allowed many a2z team members to work remotely from the safety of their homes even as the storm raged outside. Working with resources and applications on the cloud has enabled us to ensure that our clients’ business continues as usual.
Accessing News at All Times
Technology has made it easy to get on the internet with our mobile devices to access important news updates at all times of the day and night. With social media being so popular, we can even log onto Facebook or Twitter to get the latest news on the storm and check up on how our friends and family are being affected. For those of us travelling to and from shows, we can check flight delays for most major airlines using apps on our phones.
If used smartly and appropriately, technology can be used to ride out storms and respond to emergenices. I hope everyone stays safe and warm during this storm.
