A lot of businesses use several different software applications to run their operations. From customer relationship management (CRM) to payroll functions, software has made our lives easier with automated data collection, organization and reporting capabilities. With the introduction of web-based software, such as a2zShow, the internet gives us the capability to share data between systems by using a concept called web services.
A web service is the method used to share information between two systems. Web services are essentially doors between two software systems which are hosted on the internet. Using web services, the systems are able to pass queries back and forth to utilize data that each system houses independently. For instance, this concept allows a business to keep one customer dataset in Salesforce and access that dataset from inside a2z’s global admin.
The benefits of web services are mainly efficiency and accuracy related. By having a central system of customer records, the user doesn’t have to maintain two datasets. This eliminates the element of human error which can occur by making updates in two systems. Web services can also be used to extend the value of the products you are using. For instance, a2z and several registration vendors have coordinated their web services to allow exhibitors and attendees to login to both systems using one set of credentials. The door (or web service) between the two systems allows this type of sharing, also referred to as single sign on, to happen seamlessly.
If you are not utilizing web services, but think it’s something that would benefit your organization, talk to your project manager about how a2z can help.
