Q. What are your primary responsibilities at your organization?
I provide the day-to-day management of a conference called Southwest Showcase, and implement the strategies and direction provided by the Steering Committee.
Q. Cats or dogs?
Cats for sure. They don’t have owners, they have staff. I’m staff for one of them right now.
Q. How have your events evolved over the last few years?
We face more competition than in the past. Social media, of course, plays a bigger role as time goes by. There is more pressure to make sure our attendees get their money’s worth and that they leave with as many CEUs as they can get.
Q. How is a2z’s technology helping your organization?
It helps by keeping our workload down. Our exhibitors can go online, see who’s in the booths, make a selection, and print their own invoice without ever having to call us. That saves us a lot of time on the phone. Our exhibitors like the fact that they can see everything in real time and not have to call us to get the information they need.
Q. What is the coolest thing you have seen at any show?
The coolest thing I’ve seen recently are some small tiles, about the size of half of a credit card, that you can attach to anything and keep track of where it is. You load an app on your phone (of course) and then you can log in and see where your keys are, where your car is, your laptop, your luggage, your dog (or cat in my case)–anything at all. Very handy.
