Vice President, Marketing & Communications
International Association of Exhibitions and Events
What is your role at IAEE?
Bowman: I am the vice president of marketing and communications. I oversee all marketing corporate and event marketing as well as our social media campaign.
Something fun about you that most people in the industry probably don’t know?
Bowman: Me and my daughter Marlo, we like to be goofy and take selfies – it’s our thing.
Cats or dogs?
Bowman: Cats. They are the superior species.
How can people reach you?
Bowman: Social media, @IAEE_HQ.
How do you use technology to help you through your show cycle?
Bowman: We rely heavily on our partners for all aspects of the show cycle, from registration, to exhibitor services, education session tracking/call for papers, itinerary building, you name it. We are in a unique situation as we always try new partners and it presents a challenge at times to integrate, but we persevere.
What are the three key ways in which you connected buyers and sellers at Expo Expo?
Bowman: We offer a multitude of ways to connect buyers and sellers from the beginning of the registration process. First we offer Connect, powered by a2z. Second we offer exhibitor marketing kits that give helpful suggestions and tips for reaching their intended audience. Third, we provide ample time on the show floor, along with several networking opportunities to create a networking atmosphere.
Tell us a bit about the education and networking experience at EE15.
Bowman: We have over 70 sessions planned on and off the show floor. The programming has something for everyone but we have also created or expanded special sessions for niche groups such as public events, the MATSO community, YPs, women in leadership, international attendees and executive management.
What is new and not-to-be-missed at this year’s event?
Bowman: New features we added this year include a new show app, TechCenter Showcase, Expo! Expo! Connect, Tech Startup Pavilion and a Wellness Lounge.
As an IAEE green initiative, the traditional printed show guide will be replaced by the mobile app, by a new App partner, Eventbase. Beacons will be placed throughout the Expo! Expo! show floor and conference areas to enhance your experience . Be sure and download the Expo! Expo! show app to receive all the latest news and updates on the upcoming show. Meet fellow attendees, map out your days, build your itinerary for education and networking events. Go to the app store and search for “ExpoExpo2015”.
The TechCenter Showcase is a pod-based exhibition zone on the show floor with a TV studio-like feel and is designed to allow companies to conduct live demonstrations of their technology products.
Expo! Expo! Connect is available through the show website, an innovative way to connect buyers, sellers, and peers at the event. Connect, powered by a2z, incorporates two networking and matchmaking programs – BizConnect and Hosted Buyer Program – both specially designed to put the event participants’ networking success on the fast track.
The Tech Startup Pavilion is where truly “new to the scene” tech start-ups will be exhibiting. Companies are less than 2 years old and their product must have been launched in the last 12 months.
The Wellness Lounge will showcase the latest and emerging trends in personal and professional wellness with experts and therapists versed in acupuncture, massage techniques, posture therapy, ergonomics, trends in nutrition and farm-to-table, and locally sourced food choices — for both personal and event uses. Wellness area sessions will be held on Thursday, 3 December.
